I do high quality repairs at a reasonable rate on clarinets, oboes, bassoons and saxophones. My wife Celia Craig and I are both accomplished professional players, so when I hand an instrument back to the customer, I know that it’s set up and fine tuned to the highest professional standards so that it remains totally reliable.
In addition to general services, tuning and maintenance, I take on full overhauls, rebuilds and repads as well as more unusual jobs like broken or loose tenons, repairing splits and cracks, tone hole inserts, replacing rotten wood, soldering broken keys and more. For more detail follow the links above for your instrument.
When I replace a pad I always meticulously prepare the surface of the tone hole by leveling, filling and polishing, eliminating any open grain to produce a perfect surface and ensuring an airtight seal. I use only the finest quality cork, felt and oil, so that the keywork is smooth and silent.
I believe that as a repairer, you never stop learning and improving. I keep in contact with a number of very experienced and respected repairers in Australia and the UK, sharing information and new techniques, so that we all keep learning from one another.
I charge a fair hourly rate for my labour and always give an accurate estimate of the cost when I’ve seen the instrument. Many years of experience has taught me that this is a fairer and more economical pricing policy than giving fixed prices. You only pay for the time the job actually takes. Phone or email me for further information.
